CODE OF CONDUCT
1. PURPOSE
This Code of Conduct sets out the values, behaviour, and ethical standards expected from everyone involved with Barberton Innovative Artist Society (BIAS), including artists, staff, volunteers, board members, partners, and beneficiaries.
It exists to create a safe, respectful, professional, and creative environment where art and community can thrive.
2. CORE VALUES
All individuals working with or supported by BIAS are expected to uphold:
• Respect for people, cultures, and creativity
• Integrity and honesty in all actions
• Excellence in artistic and professional standards
• Inclusivity and fairness
• Environmental responsibility
• Accountability and transparency
3. PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOUR
Everyone associated with BIAS must:
• Treat others with dignity and respect
• Communicate clearly and respectfully
• Honour commitments and deadlines
• Use resources responsibly
• Represent BIAS positively in public and online
• Follow all BIAS policies and guidelines
4. SAFE AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT
BIAS does not tolerate:
• Discrimination of any kind
• Harassment, bullying, or intimidation
• Abuse of power or position
• Violence or threats
• Exploitation of artists, youth, or communities
All activities should promote safety, inclusion, and wellbeing.
5. ETHICAL CREATIVE PRACTICE
Artists and participants must:
• Respect intellectual property and original work
• Avoid plagiarism or misrepresentation
• Honour cultural traditions and permissions
• Credit collaborators appropriately
• Use materials responsibly and sustainably where possible
6. CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Individuals must:
• Declare any personal, financial, or professional interests that could influence decisions
• Avoid using BIAS resources for personal gain
• Step aside from decisions where a conflict exists
Transparency protects trust.
7. USE OF FUNDS AND RESOURCES
All funds, equipment, and materials provided by BIAS must be:
• Used only for approved purposes
• Handled responsibly
• Accounted for honestly
Misuse may result in disciplinary action.
8. CONFIDENTIALITY AND PRIVACY
Personal information and sensitive organisational matters must be:
• Kept confidential
• Used responsibly
• Shared only when authorised
This supports POPIA compliance and community trust.
9. REPORTING CONCERNS
Anyone may report:
• Misconduct
• Harassment or abuse
• Financial misuse
• Policy violations
Reports may be made to the BIAS Director or designated representative and will be handled fairly and confidentially.
10. CONSEQUENCES OF MISCONDUCT
Failure to follow this Code may result in:
• Warnings
• Removal from projects
• Termination of involvement
• Repayment of funds (where applicable)
• Legal action if required
Actions will be proportional and fair.
11. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
All individuals involved with BIAS may be required to confirm in writing that they understand and agree to follow this Code of Conduct.
